The Solid'R label: recovery and recycling according to ethical solidarity-based principles
December 17, 2014

The Solid'R label is an ethical label for social-economy enterprises that are active in the field of recycling, collecting and sales of used textile and goods. The label was created in response to the presence of private players on the recycling market, who sometimes operate under a pseudo-humanitarian cover. To avoid any possible confusion with the public RESSOURCES(1) launched the label Solid'R for organisations that voluntarily respect and ethical and solidarty-based principles and accept the monitoring of their compliance on a regular basis. This way people wanting to donate items to a project based on solidarity, can be sure these items are put to good use in this context.

This year Forum ETHIBEL did again carry out the independent audit of the Solid’R label for the financial year 2013. With the adhesion of two new organisations to the label, this year twelve organization have been reviewed: Ressourcerie Le Carré, Centre d’Entraide de Jette (CEJ), De Bouche à Oreille, La Fol’Fouille Ressourcerie (l’Eglantier), Spullenhulp, Oxfam Wereldwinkels, Oxfam Solidariteit, La Poudrière, Salvatoriaanse Hulpactie, Terre and newcomers Rezippons la Terre and Wereld Missie Hulp.

All organisations provided maximal insight into their annual reports, membership lists, personnel records, organisational structures and financial reporting for the year 2013. For a select number of organisations point of improvement were raised with regard to specific criteria. However, besides these limited remarks Forum ETHIBEL concluded that virtually all members fully meet the requirements of the Solid’R charter on the level of ethical principles, financial reporting and transparency.

The full list of Solid’R principles can be found in the certificates. Individual certificates for all organisations can be found on the following page: Audit and certification - all cases
