Half-yearly review of the Ethibel Sustainability Index (ESI) components
March 05, 2014

On March 3rd, 2014, the ESI Committee carried out its half-yearly review of the Index components. This article sheds a light on the Committee’s findings.

ESI Excellence Europe

The ESI Excellence Europe index selects the best rated companies in Europe on the basis of Forum ETHIBEL’s ratings and in accordance with the Ethibel Sustainability Indices Rulebook. At the review date, 200 companies were included in the ESI Excellence Europe index.

At each half-yearly review, the ESI Committee withdraws from the ESI Excellence Europe index the shares of companies that are no longer listed in the Ethibel Excellence Register. Accordingly, the following 13 companies will be withdrawn from the index: Sanoma, Whitbread, Vodafone Group, TNT Express, Telenor, Saipem, Vinci, Eiffage, Deutsche Post, Belgacom, Abertis, Anglo American and Michelin. The shares of the following companies have subsequently been selected to enter the ESI Excellence Europe index on the basis of their Forum ETHIBEL’s ratings: Abengoa, Stora Enso Oyj, Smurfit Kappa Group, Fraport, Petroleum Geo-Services, Gamesa Corp Tecnologia, Arcadis, PostNL, SIG, Banca Popolare di Milano, Shaftesbury, Telenet Group Holding and Hellenic Telecommunications Organization.

ESI Excellence Global

The ESI Excellence Global index selects the best rated companies among the largest companies worldwide on the basis of Forum ETHIBEL’s ratings and in accordance with the Ethibel Sustainability Indices Rulebook. At the review date, 99 companies were included in the ESI Excellence Global index.

Just like the ESI Excellence Europe, the ESI Committee withdraws from the ESI Excellence Global index the shares of companies that are no longer listed in the Excellence Ethibel Register. Accordingly, the following 14 companies will be withdrawn from the index: Vinci, Waste Management Inc. Kirin Holdings Co. Ltd., Panasonic Corp., Mizuho Financial Group Inc., Eli Lilly & Co., Abbott Laboratories, AbbVie Inc., Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc., Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., Home Depot Inc./The, Verizon Communications Inc., Johnson & Johnson, Cie Generale des Etablissements Michelin. At each half-yearly review, the ESI Committee adds to the ESI Excellence Global index the shares of companies that are rated A or B by Forum ETHIBEL and with a free float market capitalisation superior to 10 billion Euros. Accordingly, Unibail-Rodamco and Reed Elsevier will be included in the index.

The changes to the ESI Excellence Europe components list will be implemented after the closing hour on Friday 21th March 2014, and become effective on the next trading day.

The ESI Excellence Indices components as well as the updated version of the ESI Rulebook (effective on 21st March 2014) can be consulted on the Vigeo website.
