Launch of new BNP Paribas Fortis notes
April 26, 2016

With the SRI Leader notes, BNP Paribas Fortis Funding (BP2F) is launching new structured bonds with a sustainable profile. Forum ETHIBEL has been appointed to independently supervise the social-ethical nature of these notes.

The BP2F SRI Leader notes consist of both a savings and a return component, where the savings part means to protect (part of) the deposit through a zero-coupon bond.

The return component will be invested in derived products and depends on an ethical stock index, the STOXX Europe ESG Leaders Select 30 EUR index (Price). This index contains shares of 30 European companies with excellent ESG scores, low volatility and high dividends. For the selection of these sustainable companies, STOXX relies on research performed by Sustainalytics, a non-financial rating agency screening companies worldwide on ESG criteria.

Besides a sustainable underlying index, a social-ethical reinvestment policy is in place. Companies, institutions or projects can only be invested in if they meet one of the following positive criteria:

1. They can be considered socially innovative.

2. They have a strong social component.

3. They are strongly focused on green or sustainable products.

4. They offer a considerable amount of socially of ecologically leading products or services.

Forum ETHIBEL will verify whether the reinvestments fulfill those social-ethical requirements, and will state its findings in a certificate. The first certificates will arrive after closure of the subscription period for each note; the subsequent collectives certificates will follow annually for the series as a whole.

For more details on this cooperation, please refer to the announcement of certification by Forum ETHIBEL (only in Dutch).
