Annual review of the ESI indexes
September 11, 2013

On September 4th, 2013, the ESI Committee carried out the annual review of the Index components. This article sheds a light on the Committee’s findings.

ESI Excellence Europe

The ESI Excellence Europe index selects the 200 best rated companies in Europe on the basis of Forum ETHIBEL’s ratings and in accordance with the Ethibel Sustainability Indices Rulebook. At the review date, 198 companies were included in the ESI Excellence Europe index. At each annual review, the ESI Committee withdraws from the ESI Excellence Europe index the shares of companies that are no longer listed in the Ethibel Excellence Register. Accordingly, the following 4 companies will be withdrawn from the index: Orkla, Roche; Bankinter and Unicredit. The shares of the following companies were subsequently selected to enter the ESI Excellence Europe index on the basis of their Forum ETHIBEL’s ratings: Coca-Cola HBC, CGG, Rexel, Caixabank, Crédit Agricole and Groupe Société Générale.

ESI Excellence Global

The ESI Excellence Global index selects the best rated companies among the largest companies worldwide on the basis of Forum ETHIBEL’s ratings and in accordance with the Ethibel Sustainability Indices Rulebook. At the review date, 102 companies were included in the ESI Excellence Global index. H.J. Heinz Company was deleted from the index since the last review following its acquisition by Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital effective on June 7th, 2013.

Just like the ESI Excellence Europe, the ESI Committee withdraws from the ESI Excellence Global index the shares of companies that are no longer listed in the Excellence Ethibel Register. Consequently, the following companies were removed from the index: Roche, Applied Materials Inc. and Unicredit. At each annual review, the ESI Committee also adds to the ESI Excellence Global index the shares of companies that are rated A or B by Forum ETHIBEL and with a free float market capitalisation superior to 10 billion Euros. On September 4th, 2013, none of the constituents included in the Ethibel Excellence Register matched these criteria and so no company was added to ESI Excellence Global indices.

The changes to the ESI Excellence Europe and Global components list have been implemented after the closing hour on Friday, the 6th of September 2013, and became effective on the next trading day.

An overview of the historical reviews of the ESI indices is available on the website of Vigeo.
