Solidariteitssparen and Wereldsparen merged into the SpaarPlus account
May 29, 2013

Solidariteitssparen and Wereldsparen of VDK Spaarbank are two successful examples of saving products whose social and ethical criteria have been certified by Forum ETHIBEL for many years. As of the 1st of July, the structure of both products will be simplified however: VDK, will merge them together with its ordinary saving accounts, thus creating  the SpaarPlus account. VDK finds itself compelled to do so by new legal provisions that impose restrictions to banks on the number of types of saving products that they may offer.

The merger will promote the SpaarPlus account to one of the largest and one of the most important sustainable saving products in Belgium. VDK expects a savings volume of more than 150 million euros, which will be reinvested in accordance with strict social and ethical criteria such as currently applicable to the Solidariteitssparen and Wereldsparen. The support for social projects also remains: VDK provides an annual fee of 0.05% on the savings volumes to a number of organizations that, each in their own way, fight against the deprivation in the North and South.

On July 1, 2013, all existing Wereldsparen accounts, Soldariteitssparen accounts and conventional savings accounts will be converted automatically; as a client you don't need to do anything.

The official notification is available on the website of VDK Spaarbank.
